Q : How quickly will I receive my order?

Litmans endeavour wherever possible to dispatch your order within 24/48 hours.  Many of our UK customers enjoy next day delivery and our staff work diligently to ensure all orders are shipped out as soon as possible. This normally applies to orders for FULL ROLLS/PIECES.

Please be advised however, that cut lengths do take longer to process and in some cases (during trade show times, busy periods in our cutting department etc), it can take up to a week to process your order.  The more cut lengths you order the longer it is going to take to process and the less realistic it is to expect next day or very fast delivery.  We would urge customers to be aware of this when placing orders, and if you do require goods urgently, we would encourage you to order full rolls as this is the best and most efficient way to guarantee no delays.

Most orders are sent our with our carrier on a next day service; goods can be delivered anytime up to 5pm the next working day.  Timed deliveries are available at a surcharge; please inquire for more information.

Smaller orders of lower value are often sent by post.  If you are in a hurry and want to track and guarantee delivery of your parcel, then we will happily send my carrier or special delivery, again we would ask you contact us to discuss service options and costs.

Our European customer can click HERE to view transit times, all other worldwide locations, please click HERE to calculate delivery times.

Q : I'm a new customer - can I order online?

We don't have an online shop set up but you can place an order with us through this website.

New Customers - to place an order, please use THIS FORM. Once completed you can fax it back to us on : +44 (0) 115 9420546, or scan it and email it to our sales team : sales@litmans.org.  We can also arrange to email you a word document version of the form, for you to complete and email back to us, just email your request and we'll do the rest!

Q : Is there a cutting charge on my order?

Some cut length orders are subject to a cutting charge and it is per colour, per pattern - it's a one off charge.  It does vary pattern to pattern, it also depends how large the roll is and how much extra work and materials are involved.  Please inquire for more details.

Q : Can you guarantee the delivery dates you give?

While we do guarantee to meet the delivery date +/- 10 days, we will not agree to late penalty fees if circumstances we have no control over result in a delay.

Any number of situations beyond our control can occur, leading to a delivery date delay: adverse weather conditions, goods being held by customs, problems at the mill with knitting/dyeing/quality control, etc.  We always endeavour to deliver for the date we have quoted, however we do not agree to be penalised in the event of any of the above mentioned situations arising.

Q : Do you offer free sampling?

Regretfully, we are unable to supply metreage free of charge.  With some of our higher end fabrics in the collection priced at £50+ per metre, you can see why free samples aren't feasible. Swatches and feelers are still free (up to a reasonable amount). Please contact us for further details.

Q : Do you help Students?

While we would love to support all students with unlimited offers of swatches and free samples, due to the current economic climate and company overheads, it's just not possible.  We are, however, happy to send up to 5 of our feelers out free of charge, and we are also happy to let students have a full colour swatch for a small charge to cover P&P.  We are also able to sell metreage to students (payment due in advance by a debit card).  It's a good idea to make use of the resources on this website, and in addition, we can provide high resolution quality images which might assist with mood boards/designing, etc. Remember to come to us when you start your business for good prices, huge selection and our unique stock service.

Q : Why can't I see any prices on your website?

Our prices are always changing due to the fluctuation of the cost of raw materials. If we uploaded prices to our site, they could change the next week or month - updating them constantly would be a very big job! So, to ensure correct and accurate information is given to our customers, prices are sent out with any swatches you may request.  These are of course subject to change but we do work hard to fight against price increases and we do try to keep all our prices as low as possible.  If you don't need any swatches but are looking for a quotation, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Q : Can I order a catalogue? I'm willing to pay.

While some companies do have and send out catalogues - we don't. There are a few good reasons!

Our range is changing constantly and so we update our wesbite regularly to keep everything current and avoid disappointment that can be caused by finding that perfect but no longer in existence lace in a 2008 catalogue!

Or range is huge. At over 400 patterns, it wouldn't be a catalogue so much as a book to rival the Yellow Pages!

We keep the costs of our fabrics down by avoiding printing costs on catalogues that could become obsolete the moment they are produced.  Just visit our website to see what we can offer - it's fast, easy, convenient and we can get swatches or feelers sent to you quickly.  Or, you can catch us at one of our many shows.

Q : Do you provide test reports?

Alan Litman Ltd supplies fabric to the global market and into many forms of garment making, so we are therefore unable to provide test reports for our fabrics. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to test our fabrics to establish the suitability of a product for their own specific use and market regulations.

Alan Litman Ltd does have a library of fabric specifications which contain recommended/suggested 'wash care' instructions, fabric weight, width etc, but again customers are advised to test fabrics prior to cutting for suitability in this area.

Alan Litman Ltd cannot be held responsible for any problems which may arise as a result of non-testing at the sample stage.

Please contact us if you would like a fabric specification.

Q : What about stretch products and relaxations?

This information applies to any stretch products, both mechanical or yarn based:

Due to the relaxation nature of these fabrics, a 10% allowance MUST be made for shrinkage/relaxation before cutting. No claims will be accepted that are within these parameters, likewise; no claims will be accepted on goods which have been cut.

It is the responsibility of the customer to sample, test and understand every fabric and it's characteristics before ordering or cutting any bulk. Please contact Alan Litman if you have any concerns regarding the suitability of a product before ordering, as returns may not  always be possible.

Please click the following link to read our technical guide regarding stretch/helenca laces & nets.  This useful tool explains the characteristics of stretch products and how to work with them.  It also gives invaluable information about the best way to lay up and cut stretch fabrics.

Q : Do you have any technical information about lace?

Lace is an openwork fabric, patterned with open holes in the work, made by machine or by hand. The holes can be formed via removal of threads or cloth from a previously woven fabric, but more often open spaces are created as part of the lace fabric. A true lace is created when a thread is looped, twisted or braided to other threads independently from a backing fabric.

As well as traditional lace styles we stock more modern styles of lace in a huge range of colours and compositions, including cotton blend, nylon and polyester. Whether you choose one of our classic lace styles or a more modern twist, we are sure to have a lace to match your fabric requirements.

Q : How can I tell if a fabric is scalloped?

We try, wherever possible to use a photograph that actually shows the scallop.  However, if this is not possible then the clue is in the pattern number and the description.  Any pattern with 'double flounce' in the description will have 2 scalloped edges.  Likewise, any pattern number followed by /DF (for example 9002/DF), will have the 2 scalloped edges.  /DF means double flounce. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to call our sales team on : +44 (0) 115 9708992.

Q : What do I do if I can't find what I'm looking for?

Please contact us! While we try to provide customers with a vast selection from our collection of over 500 patterns, it could be that we don't have exactly what you need.  If you contact us to let us know what this is, our Production Department can look into sourcing it for you (minimums may apply).  It may even lead to us adding it into the range.  We are always happy to look into new possibilities and work closely with our customers on projects like these.  Just email the details to : sales@litmans.org and leave the rest to us.
