Litmans are pleased to announce that our debut at the Premiere Vision São Paulo show was a great success. We were very encouraged by the amount of visitors to our stand and really pleased with the response to our range. Some of the most popular items proved to be from our beautiful embroidered lace selection and as usual our bestselling power mesh (8720) and spot mesh (8591) qualities were a hit.

National style icons such as the Duchess of Cambridge are driving demand for British fashion overseas and the UK’s fashion sector expects to capitalise on it, says a new report. The survey, highlighted in the January/February 2012 Springboard (UKT&I) publication, reveals that two-thirds of small UK fashion companies surveyed expect to see overseas sales to double over the next two years. Phil Couchman, CEO of the company conducting the survey, said: “The British fashion industry is in a strong position to grow its own revenues.”

After such a positive reaction at this show, Litmans have decided to return in July 2012 and will be showing for the second time at premiere Vision New York, so if you missed us the first time around we hope to see you then. We've noticed a lot of celebrities wearing beautiful garments made from our laces and fabrics recently. HRH The Queen of England, Lady Gaga, and Coleen Rooney to name a few! We were flattered to be one of only four companies to be selected by Drapers as one of the highlights of The Textile Forum show in London last month. Our previous news articles have already illustrated how busy the show was, so in light of the amount of exhibitors in attendance, we are very pleased to have been chosen. It might just have something to do with our stunning collection, which is packed full of classic designs, cutting edge on trend patterns, beautiful luxury fabrics and much more.

We were so heartened to see that the busy and successful trend we experienced at Premiere Vision Paris in September continued at the Textile Forum in London this October. This was our busiest show yet, and Textile Forum have agreed it was also their busiest show to date. The Textile Forum is London's most exclusive fashion fabric show, aimed at designers, manufacturers, dressmakers and retail fabric specialists looking for high quality fashion fabrics from UK and Continental mills. Litmans were able to show the new collection to literally hundreds of customers and our London Agent and Sales Manager were rushed off their feet for the entire show. We are very much looking forward to attending again in March 2012 which will be a special 10th anniversary show. We'll also be back in October 2012 - so that gives our customers ample chance to come and visit us.

Trade show “defies economic gloom”, says press release.
Our directors are back from Premiere Vision, fresh from another eventful show. This year was a very energetic, vibrant show with increased numbers of attendees and exhibitors and with stands being busy until late at night (ours included!). Our Chief Executive Officer Mr Stuart Prime says “we were thrilled with the turnout at the show, both in terms of UK and foreign customers. We were able to greet many existing customers and were also able to connect with new companies, many of who we can now call customers. From what we saw, lace continues to be bang on trend and shows no sign of slowing down. This was an exciting show and we agree that the fashion industry seems to be defying the recession and poor economic climate.”
We have been reviewing our patterns to see which gathered the most interest for the upcoming seasons. Here’s our report for what’s on trend:
Topping our best-seller list once more is the always in demand Power Mesh - 8720. We have thousands of metres of our 20 on trend colours in stock right now for immediate delivery, but it’s selling fast!
Other very popular patterns included our Helenca stretch mesh, 1148. Available in over 35 colours, this multi-use mesh is one of our all time bestselling patterns. It was no surprise to see that our spot mesh 8591 generated just as much interest as ever. Demand for this product is still very high and with a colour selection of over 20 colours from stock, it’s easy to see why. 9168/DF is a brand new brushed lace design, which produced a great response from customers and is sampling heavily at the moment. Classic patterns such as 8767, 8613/DF, 8564/DF and 8867/DF were all a big hit and our new chiffons and satins created lots of interest.

The Premiere Vision trend guide suggests that this season, the new colours and trends will be "radically upsetting proportion and in general stirring up the balance between colour and neutrality; edginess and also timelessness."

Alan Litman Ltd was established in the Broad Marsh Centre, Nottingham in 1946.
Alan Litman was born in Romania and came over to England in 1938. He served six years in the British Army and then he joined his uncle in the world famous Nottingham Lace trade. In 1946 he set up his own shop, along with wife Ellen Litman, MBE. They started out small but business grew and as the business expanded, the Litmans moved to Radford Road in New Basford in 1968. Litmans still operate from this very address to this day. The company went on to expand into America, Europe, Japan and the Middle East after Alan & Ellen attended their first textile fair in Frankfurt. With the company now trading worldwide, and with business booming, Litmans were building a reputation as the place to go for lace. At this time, there were around 1,100 Leavers lace machines in Nottingham. Fast forward to the early 1990’s and there were only around 200 machines still to be found. That number will be even more depleted today. Alan had to sell 36 machines during a time when trade diminished, but ever resourceful, he turned to Importing and exporting; a gamble which paid off.
Some years later during the 80’s, Alan & Ellen semi-retired and passed the business over to their sons, David, Martin & Adrian. This is when 'Damad House' was born (David, Martin, Adrian). Business thrived and it was often so busy that people nicknamed Litmans ‘Da-mad House’ (The Mad House). This was due to the fact that back then and even more so today, Litmans is a thriving hub of activity with staff working their hardest, non-top throughout the day to meet all orders, ensure same to next day dispatch and handle all the special cut length requirements in a timely fashion.
Working with all the lace makers and Dye house companies in Nottingham, Litmans were the forerunner in supplying Nottingham Lace worldwide. One by one however, these companies ceased trading and so Litmans turned to importing from the Far East for the majority of their range. Some items are still produced in the UK however, and wherever possible, Litmans work closely with these companies.

In 2008, the Litman brothers decided to retire and the business was acquired by Stuart Prime and Craig Sherwin, both hailing from Leicester. Stuart and Craig both have extensive experience in the clothing and fabric industry, each working in this sector and having at least 20 years knowledge of the business. They were happy to retain the Litmans name and to run the business with the same care and attention that had always been taken, but there were also many updates and upgrades undertaken that enabled the company to move with the times and work faster and more efficiently. This website was launched and has proved hugely successful, the trade events which Litmans attend were increased, our warehouse system was completely revamped, fork lift trucks were brought in, brand new computer systems all round, the company took on more worldwide agents, and all while still offering the same amazing service that our customers have come to know and expect.
So that brings us full circle.

9023/DF - A beautiful floral lace, with gorgeous beading & sequin detail. Featuring finely scalloped edges, this lace has 25% rayon content which gives the flowers a beautiful lustre, making it extra special and a popular choice with brides.

9002/DF - This is a corded floral lace with scalloped edges, featuring timeless rose buds and open flowers. With 50% rayon content, this lace achieves its sparkle without having a single sequin or any beading. Simple, classic and elegant, this is another pattern that is currently flying off our shelves.

8885/DF - This lace definitely has a luxurious feel due to the deep scalloped edging. A vintage favourite, this classic embroidered lace features beading, sequins and tiny pearls that deliver a glamourous finish to any wedding dress. Almost 3 billion viewers worldwide tuned in to watch as Prince William finally married his Princess, Catherine Middleton.
All eyes were fixed on the bride as she stepped out onto the red carpet at Westminster abbey, looking simply stunning in her Alexander McQueen creation, designed by Sarah Burton. The dress was kept a closely guarded secret until this very moment, but the second the dress was seen by the world's eyes, sewing machines everywhere were working overtime to create copies of this timelessly elegant gown.
A gorgeous combination of vintage lace, hand embroidered satin and hand sewn tulle petticoats were put together to make this modern day take on a classic, iconic Grace Kelly look.
Hand embroidery experts worked tirelessly at Hampton Court palace sewing special motifs for the gown; a thistle, shamrock, rose and daffodil to represent England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The seamstresses washed their hands every 30 minutes to keep the lace and satin in pristine white condition. The effort and months of planning were worth it when the gown was finally unveiled to the world.

After exhibiting our latest collection at the recent Textile Forum show in London, we were very encouraged by the excellent response and the buoyant energy there. We found the show to be extremely busy and we were pleased at the opportunity to greet existing customers but also meet many new faces. The level of vistors to our stand was very high and also constant; our London agent Ray Reck and our Director Mr Craig Sherwin were kept very busy indeed!
Litmans were bang on trend once again and customers were particularly responsive to our beautiful Vintage lace collection and also our sheer fabrics (chiffons, soft organzas, etc). Our classic lace collection was as popular as ever, as well as our spot nets & meshes, to name but a few.

Having returned from what has turned out to be our most popular Premiere Vision show for many years, we would like to take a moment to let our customers know which fabrics have received the most attention for the upcoming spring/summer season.
Top of the list was our ever popular 8720 power mesh which now comes in a more varied and vibrant colour range. This fabric continues to be a market leader in terms of quality & price and looks like it will continue to be popular for some time to come.
Following close on its heels are current patterns 8767, 8836/DF, 8613/DF, 8747, 8900/DF, 8345 and 8324. The new additions to our range such as 9129, 9130, 9135, 9141, 9157 and 9158 have also been received very well, with the 9130 being the most popular by far. It looks like this cotton/mix lace will soon become one of our more busy patterns.
We are also pleased to announce that over the coming month we will be adding a Far Eastern agent to our ever growing list of agents and all at Litmans wish her all the best for the coming season.
